Prepare the inputs before opening the apps
- A clean source video folder
- The destination: sharing, upload, web delivery, or a lighter archive copy
- A representative video with the detail and audio that matter most
- A separate output folder
step_by_step
The working process
-
1
Measure and protect the source set
Note the folder size, file count, important formats, and largest files. Keep the source footage unchanged and treat the compressed videos as delivery or storage copies.
-
2
Choose the destination format deliberately
Use MP4 when broad player compatibility matters. Use WebM only when the destination supports it and its web-focused VP9/Opus output suits the job.
-
3
Start with a reviewable quality setting
In Batch Compress Video, begin with the balanced CRF setting and the default encoding speed, then choose an audio bitrate appropriate for speech, music, or ambient sound. Smaller settings are not automatically better.
-
4
Test one representative video first
Create a copy of a detailed, fast-moving, dark, or text-heavy video. Watch it in the intended player, listen for audio damage, and compare it with the source before committing to the folder.
-
5
Set the output boundary and run the batch
Choose a separate destination, filename suffix, and skip-existing behaviour. Remove metadata only when the new copies should omit titles, location/device data, timestamps, and chapters.
-
6
Review the completed delivery set
Check original size, final size, and total space saved. Open samples from across the batch, then share or upload only after confirming playback, picture, audio, naming, and destination-folder contents.

Review before you call it finished
- Are original videos separate and unchanged?
- Does the selected MP4 or WebM format work in the destination?
- Do representative videos retain acceptable picture and audio quality?
- Are metadata removal and filename choices intentional?
- Was the total size reduction measured before delivery?

Limits and privacy
Practical limitation
Video re-encoding is lossy and can trade detail, motion handling, audio quality, and encoding time for smaller files. This workflow does not edit, crop, or repair footage; inspect representative results before using an aggressive setting broadly.
Privacy boundary
Video files stay on the Windows PC. Batch Compress Video uses its bundled FFmpeg engine to create local output copies and does not upload the folder to a 3thousand30 service.

Questions worth answering
Should I use MP4 or WebM?
Use MP4 for broad compatibility with players and recipients. Use WebM when you specifically need a web-focused VP9/Opus delivery format and have confirmed the destination supports it.
Can I delete the originals after compression?
Only after independently deciding that the compressed copies meet your retention and quality needs. The safer normal workflow is to retain the original source footage.
